Meet Our Staff
Peter has been a practicing Physical Therapist for the past 17 years. He is originally from The Netherlands where he received his Bachelors degree in 1992 from Hogeschool van Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Peter has received his certification in Manual Physical Therapy (1996) and Functional Manual Therapy (2000) from the Institute of Physical Therapy in Steamboat Springs, CO.

In 2002, Peter formed Total Function Physical Therapy, PC. Peter specializes in Hands-On Manual Physical Therapy and is comfortable in treating both short and long-term cases of all types. He has also served as an Expert Witness in several legal cases.

Peter has three beautiful children ages 13, 9 and 6.

Brenda’s passion for Physical Therapy started as early as Junior High when she decided to become a Physical Therapist and has not diminished since. She received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Indianapolis in 1989. Brenda finds great pleasure and satisfaction as a Physical Therapist because of her love for people, health, and healing.

With an emphasis in outpatient manual therapy, Brenda has worked in numerous settings along the Front Range and across the country. She has treated all ages of patients from infants to centenarians. She also has experience and training beyond typical orthopedic diagnosis with experience in TMJ, visceral manipulation, cranial sacral and neural manipulation, as well as total joint replacements.

Brenda enjoys being married and has two wonderful daughters. She loves to experience everything Colorado has to offer including hiking, biking, skiing, running and camping.

Audrey is a self identified 'Southern Gal' from Georgetown, TX. She studied English Literature at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX.

She has several years of experience working in medical offices and her energy and sparkling personality are a tremendous asset to us.

She enjoys hiking and fishing around Colorado's hidden lakes and is an avid traveler.

Alma is a Colorado native and has lived in the Colorado Springs area for most of her life.

She attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO and is now completing her degree in Psychology at Colorado Christian University. Having previously worked for Peter de Jong back in 2002 Alma is a former employee as well as a long term patient.  

Alma is married, has two children and is active in her church. She loves the mountains and everything that Colorado has to offer.

I just completed my 5th visit. Unlike other prior physical therapy at other facilities, therapy here has been very helpful...and we are stopping therapy at this point. Im back to all  prior activities, including gold and doing quite well - again after only 5 visits.
Chris O'Connell, DPT
PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Chris grew up in Chapel Hill, NC where he recieved his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise and Sport Science from Elon University, North Carolina in 2006. Chris moved to Florida in 2008 where he received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine in 2011.

Soon after graduating Chris uprooted and moved to Colorado Springs seeking the beautiful mountains and all Colorado has to offer.  He is currently working towards his Manual Therapy Certification (MTC) from the University of Saint Augustine. 

Chris enjoys the outdoors and is an avid sports enthusiast!

Brian Isherwood, DPT
PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Brian attended Hope College in Holland, MI and received a his BA degree in Psychology.  He then continued on to earn his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  After graduating from Washington University, he worked in Fayetteville, NC near Fort Bragg.  Brian has worked with large varieties of post orthopedic surgery diagnoses and has a passion for working with all types of shoulder diagnoses and sports-specific rehabilitation. 

Brian was born and raised on St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  There he enjoyed surfing, sailing, and all other types of water sports.  However, he decided to trade in the ocean and surfboards for the mountains and snowboarding and relocated to Colorado in 2011. 

Brian has a favorite quote by Ernest Shackleton, who survived for two years near the South Pole and kept all of his men alive, with saying that “Optimism is true moral courage”.

Kelli Strobel, DPT
PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Kelli was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA, uprooting to study Kinesiology at California Polytechnic State University where she graduated in 2003. Upon completing her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Chapman University in 2006, Kelli moved to Aberdeen, Scotland where she taught both undergraduate and graduate level physical therapy and focused her clinical work on runners and cyclists. In Scotland, Kelli ran the “Loch Ness Marathon,” which she claims is her first and last marathon.

In 2010, Kelli moved to Castle Rock, CO where she currently resides with her husband and daughter. She is excited to be practicing at Total Function, and enjoys teaching people about their bodies and restoring function through hands-on manual physical therapy. To increase her ability for this end, she is currently working towards a certificate from The Institute of Physical Art.

Kelli loves the beauty of Colorado and has enjoyed finding new running trails. She is particularly excited about finding new coffee shops to explore and mountains to enjoy.

Heather Schoonmaker, MSPT
PHYSICAL THERAPIST
Heather grew up in upstate New York where she was first introduced to physical therapy as a patient when she was a teenager. She knew immediately that this was an appealing career path. She graduated with her physical therapy degree in 2008 from the University of Hartford. Just after graduating, she practiced in Massachusetts before relocating to Colorado in 2011.  She is constantly impressed with what the field of physical therapy has to offer. She enjoys treating a variety of injuries and is working on furthering her education and skills.

She loves all outdoor activities and has been an avid runner for more than 10 years. She moved to Colorado Springs with her husband-to-be to explore a different part of the country and see what the mountains are all about. So far, she has been impressed with Colorado Springs and everything the Rocky Mountains have to offer.
